Most of the videos we about topics/events I had heard about, but never really studied in school. I feel like there is often talk about how children in Germany or Russia don’t learn about the Holocaust because their countries are ashamed of their participation. I am learning that there are so many more things in our country history that our students are never taught, but these events are so important for these students to learn so that we can grow and move forward as a country.
I never knew this history of redlining and the disproportionate rates of Black Americans being able to get/afford housing. The societal disproportions go far past police and incarceration.
I feel our current education does not properly inform us on needed information on our country’s history. I believe this misinformation contributes to the ongoing White privilege and disproportions between races.
I am 60. The education I received in Elementary, High School & College was extremely Eurocentric. I did not understand world-wide white colonization until I started reading information from a history class my daughter was taking in college. Ugh.
