I found this topic personally interesting. When I was researching my father's "tribe", I was lead to a tiny town called Guadalupe. The town has little more than a few family owned restaurants, a school, and a church. Here, it feels like time has stopped. I wondered why the city of Phoenix cut Guadalupe off from the Guadalupe cemetery, which was further down the hill, squished between houses yet closer to corporate businesses, but in no way accessible without a vehicle. I was told that the area the Yaqui were originally given to settle, was taken back by the government and they were moved further up the hill. The cemetery marks the area of the original settlement. If you're ever in Phoenix, I recommend a visit to Guadalupe.
Thanks for sharing this, Lydia.
