In my house, we are not big fans of Trump. Most of us don't care to hear about anything that came from the White House that could have potentially been positive. We are a mixed race family and have never seen Trump as an ally, but rather an instigator of hate. So when he passed the First Step Act, we mostly overlooked it or dismissed it as pandering. After watching these videos, I wanted to take a closer look at the First Step Act. Evidently, it is the most significant criminal justice reform legislation in several years. I know he lacks the ability to unify or empathize over current events, but maybe we can take the higher ground, recognize a good thing, and see if we can bring him to our table, rather than waiting to see if he'll become a good leader. If we're stuck with him for another four years, maybe we can use items like the First Step Act as stepping stone in the right direction.
