This module allowed me to understand the intersections of poverty, race, trauma, and education so much better. It filled in some of the gaps in my understanding of what the NRA is all about and why and how the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's is still reverberating today. My lens has shifted a little and I am finally understanding why people support our current president- the perception is that he will maintain the white supremacist social order through his vision of an American dominated by white men where everyone else is meant to be powerless. I couldn't understand why so many people voted for him but in the historical context of race in the United States, it makes sense. Also, I never understood what redlining was and how it perpetuates segregation and keeps the poor impoverished. I am glad to understand that now because it ties in with the political gerrymandering and voter suppression that affects our representation in government.
