I see this every day. My job works with data. We use data to show us where our leads our. We use data to see the demographics of areas. In the rural midwest this is seen in a socio-economical way and an educational way. I see the effects of red lining when I'm at one school district and drive 10 minutes down the road to another and I can visually see the differences in the school districts in physical buildings and staffing. The policies/laws put into place so long ago to keep 'others' from living their life are still here and embedded to the point where I even have been told 'a 9th grader was shot today' 'you GO to that school?' 'We're lucky if we graduate 20% of our class.' As the video said, our system isn't dysfunctional, it's functioning exactly as it should to keep whiteness superior.
