The content regarding the relationship between mass incarceration and African-Americans reminded me a lot of a paper I wrote this past semester in sociology. It is important to understand the connection between African-Americans with low levels of schooling and incarceration as well as the effect that parental incarceration has on children, many times leading to behavioral and mental health problems. The increase in mass incarceration within the last ten years is disturbing and unacceptable. The way the the narrator explained how America is no longer incarcerating the individual but rather whole social groups truly stood out to me, causing me to take the time to reflect on that very statement. While I was generally aware of this topic still being an issue in our country, the video and facts forced me to recognize that I was unaware of just how much of an issue it still is and the damaging effects it has on both of individual and their family.
