I was struck by the amount of despair that the kids felt when they belonged to the "inferior"group, and how quickly and easily it became for members of the "superior" group to discriminate against and treat poorly the "inferior group." I was also struck by the non-verbal body language of those in the "inferior" group--they would hide their faces and show other expressions of shame. I hope Miss Elliott took care to ensure that the delineations she made in regard to eye color for this experiment/lesson were soon erased and that human dignity towards all individuals was stressed as a value upheld in her classroom.
