It's not enough to say that our criminal justice system is broken. A horrific cycle of lack of support and opportunities for black communities (red-lined by whites), to then turning around and targeting those communities with harsher eyes and sentences for crimes. Keeping white communities somehow safer by spending gobs of money in policing and incarceration to "keep us safe" instead of spending that money to give more opportunities and support.
Agreed...did you see Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's response to the question "what does an America with a defunded police look like to you?" She said: "The good news is that it actually doesn't take a lot of imagination. It looks like a suburb." She goes on to talk about the resources spent on things other than police in white communities; making sure a white teen's life isn't ruined from making a mistake. We surely have NOT taken that stance for Black and Brown teens. But we need to.
