The message in all of these videos is that unless you are a white American, you've never really been considered a "real" American. Like many others have already commented, I wasn't taught this painful history in school. I'm now a history teacher and I don't even know a lot of the information in these videos - that's embarrassing to me. As a World History teacher I recognize that I still focus too much on the Eurocentric view of history, but I have tried to incorporate more voices into my lessons. I plan to spend this summer reworking what I'm teaching next year and be even more intentional about being more inclusive.
