I just want to say that these videos were beautifully done and incredibly powerful!
Also I didn't know about the blood testing for Native Americans, it boggles my mind how unjust the system and history has been for native people. And the kids talking about growing up black just break my heart - the fears and biases that they have to live with are not ok!
These videos definitely speak to me, and are absolutely heart breaking and infuriating. That said I think these videos are great for the non-defensive who are willing to accept new truths or revelations about race relations in this country. Something I would love to see moving forward is more point, counterpoint coverage of the issues. I feel this could be more powerful and useful if viewpoints that lead to environmental racism and illegal immigration were better acknowledged and taken down. These videos are right up my alley politically, but without the balance a couple of them border on propaganda (again great propaganda in my opinion). But I think the work in the country that most ardently needs to be done is with those who will have defensive reactions to this.
Also the immigration video did this well, but I would like to see the videos make more direct connections to the issues we are seeing today. I can come up with my own conclusions and I see some ties, but again the people who most need to be educated could walk away from many of these videos thinking, 'that was terrible, but it ended 50+ years ago.' The case really needs to be driven home that this is still a major problem today, and it always has been a major problem. I hope as the modules progress to see more of this.
I think these videos, and the video about the Native American boarding schools are the ones that impacted me the most.
